What is a health cash plan?

A health cash plan is an employee benefit in which you pay a monthly fee which entitles you to have routine medical and dental expenses covered (within certain benefit limits).

For example, you could pay £10 per month, per employee, on a plan that covers up to £200 of dental costs, £100 of optical care and £100 of physiotherapy.

It is important to remember that health cash plans and health insurance are two different types of cover. Health insurance will allow you to access private medical treatment for qualifying acute medical needs. Whereas a cash plan allows you to claim money back against ongoing and routine everyday treatments.

The health cash plan and the NHS

You can also use the plan alongside the NHS, as most NHS users are still expected to pay for prescriptions, eye tests and dental treatment, you can use the health cash plan to fund these routine expenses.
